The European Union (EU) has expanded the sanctions list due to the entry of Crimea into Russia and included eight more Russian citizens in it. A message about this is published on the website of the EU Council.

"The EU Council believes that these eight people should be included in the list of persons, structures and bodies against whom restrictive measures have been imposed for their role in undermining or threatening the territorial integrity, sovereignty and independence of Ukraine," the statement said.

Earlier, the EU Council extended personal sanctions against Russian citizens for the use and proliferation of chemical weapons for one year. Restrictive measures will be in effect until October 16, 2022. They target 15 individuals and two organizations. China considers unacceptable US attempts to prevent gas supplies from Russia to Europe, as well as the desire to monopolize the energy market of the European Union. This was announced by the official representative of the Chinese Foreign Ministry Zhao Lijian, reports TASS.

The diplomat called the launch of the Russian Nord Stream-2 project mutually beneficial for the EU. In his opinion, gas supplies via the pipeline will help to resolve the difficult energy situation in the European Union.

Lijian pointed out that the United States is trying to use "all possible ways" to prevent the implementation of the project, acting against the interests of Russia and the EU. "The United States is guided solely by its own interests and is trying to politicize all relevant issues," the Foreign Ministry spokesman said.
