The World Health Organization (WHO) announced a decrease in the incidence of coronavirus in the world. However, in the Western countries that have defeated COVID-19, the threat of the spread of the Indian strain remains, RIA Novosti reports.
The WHO warned that the delta strain is considered more aggressive. It is noted that over the past week, more than 35 thousand residents of the UK have been infected with it. Before that, the British strain "alpha"was distributed in the country. The rate of infection with it was 60 percent lower than that of the Indian strain.
At the moment, the population is being actively vaccinated against coronavirus in the West. At the same time, developing countries do not have enough drugs. The most difficult situation is observed in Africa, where the incidence has increased by 40 percent in a week. WHO Director-General Tedros Ghebreyesus compared the situation with COVID-19 in the African region with the spread of HIV and AIDS. According to him, current methods of treatment are not available to residents of Africa.
On June 24, the head of the European Center for Disease Prevention and Control, Andrea Ammon, predicted the rapid spread of the Indian strain of coronavirus to all European countries. The doctor noted that by August 2021, 90 percent of cases of COVID-19 in the European territory will fall on the "delta" variant of the virus.
