The Paris Metropolitan Court acquitted the French politician and leader of the right-wing National Front party (today called the National Association) Jean-Marie Le Pen in the case of provocation of racial hatred. This was reported by the BFMTV channel.
In 2014, a video interview with Le Pen was released, where he spoke to the actor, a Jew by nationality, Patrick Bruel and other critics of the "Front" with the phrase "next time we will arrange an oven for them." This was perceived as a promise of reprisals and calls for violence and racial hatred.
However, at the final hearing, the court recognized that Le Pen did not want to incite violence against any race with his statements. Experts assessed his words as a desire to earn political points in front of the audience. At the same time, on Friday, the judge ruled that Le Pen's statement referred to "a symbolic image of the process of systematic extermination of the Jews of Europe."
For his words, Le Pen has experienced significant public condemnation. In 2015, he was expelled from the National Front. In 2018, he was stripped of the title of honorary chairman of the party. Even the conservative and deputy of the National Assembly of France Marine Le Pen condemned the words of her father, calling them a political mistake.
