Polish Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki called the distinctive feature of the institutions of the European Union (EU) and pointed out that they are distinguished by a "lack of democracy." This is reported by Welt with reference to the comment of the politician.
According to the prime minister, European states should think about whether they want to merge with the institutions in Brussels and Luxembourg or preserve their sovereignty. He stressed that respect for EU law does not mean that it prevails over national constitutions. "Poland is no exception," Morawiecki added.
At the same time, the politician pointed out that Poland is a "loyal member of the EU" and does not intend to leave the European Union. "It is difficult to find a nation more attached to the idea of freedom, democracy and the European idea than Poland. Pro-European forces prevail in the Polish parliament and public life," the Prime Minister commented.
On October 27, the EU court imposed a fine of one million euros per day on the Polish state due to its refusal to abolish the disciplinary chamber of the Supreme Court — the European bloc believes that the action of this body undermines the independence of the judiciary in the republic.
On September 7, the European Commission demanded to impose sanctions against Poland because of judicial reform. Exactly one month later, on October 7, the Polish Constitutional Court recognized the supremacy of constitutional law over European law.
