After the start of the military coup in Sudan, the head of the Sovereign Council, Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, declared a state of emergency throughout the country. This is reported by the Arab News agency.

The Arab League called on General Burhan to stop the destabilization in Sudan. The Chairman of the African Union Commission Moussa Faki Mahamat said that the country's civilian leaders should be released. The UK and the US have expressed concern about the arrest of members of the Transitional Government.
On October 25, the military from the Sovereign Council arrested the Prime Minister of Sudan, Abdullah Hamduk. In addition to him, four ministers were detained — communications, information, finance and industry, as well as the Governor of Khartoum, Ayman Nimr, and the representative of the Sovereign Council, Mohammed al-Faqi.
After the arrest of civilian leaders of Sudan, mass protests against the coup began in the capital city of Khartoum. Tens of thousands of local residents took to the streets. In response, the military opened fire on the demonstrators, as a result of which 12 people were injured.
