US State Department spokesman Ned Price reacted to the words of Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov that relations between Moscow and Washington have reached the bottom. Price said it was Russia's fault. His words are reported by RIA Novosti.
He listed Washington's claims against Moscow, including alleged Russian interference in the 2016 and 2020 elections, allegations of cyberattacks, the confrontation between Russia and Ukraine, and other incidents. It is in these accusations, as the representative of the State Department noted, that the reason for the deterioration of the dialogue lies.
"It is still true that we are looking for a stable and predictable relationship with Russia. Just because we have such deep differences, and the relationship is where it is, doesn't mean there won't be any areas of tactical overlap [of interests]," Price said.
Earlier, Lavrov said that the confrontation between the United States and Russia has reached the bottom. At the same time, he expressed hope that Washington will see the risks associated with escalating tensions between the countries, and "prudence will prevail."
Amid the crisis, the Russian Ambassador to the United States, Anatoly Antonov, arrived in Moscow for consultations. Speaking at a meeting of the Federation Council Committee on International Affairs, the diplomat said that relations between Russia and the United States are in the deepest crisis. According to him, Washington has no desire to fix this somehow.
