"Still, some kind of damned desire periodically, again and again, brings Russia to the shores of the Red Sea and the Indian Ocean, then in the still imperial desire to turn Ethiopia into a colony, then in the desire not with a carcass, but with a stuffed animal to attach its bases in the region," - writes a publicist and analyst on his Facebook page.
"And history does not teach us anything, the hidden desire to beat the rake, stepping now with the right, now with the left foot, and then jumping on them with a running start, remains unchanged.
Was it worth it to arm the Somali army and fully help build another African socialism to comrade Siad Barre, so that in a few days he could flee from our base in the port of Berber and smash the same army, only this time "Somali revisionists and nationalists" on the side of Ethiopia?
Was it worth it to bury billions of dollars and rubles in the red Ethiopian soil and help Comrade Mengist Mariam to build his own African socialism and smash the army of the "Somali military" armed and trained by us, in order to then escape from our base on the island of Nokra after approaching it? Eritrean separatists?
Was it worth investing in bases in the "brotherly" South Yemeni Aden and Socotra, and then lose them along with the existence of South Yemen itself?
And the next twist of this endless story is the base in Sudan. From there, unlike neighboring Egypt, Ethiopia and Eritrea, we have not yet been expelled - so we need to test the rake on Sudanese soil. Deliberately not noticing that the country lost one civil war, falling apart in two, is waging another, in Darfur, only recently in the capital Khartoum there were bloody protests.
All this, coupled with the obvious weakness of the current authorities and the lovely surroundings where civil wars start or continue in Ethiopia, the Central African Republic, South Sudan and Libya, promises our base a truly happy and calm existence.
Exactly until the moment when another king, general or Negus who came to power, does not change the country's foreign policy priorities, as has happened more than once, or the next wave of insurgents on carts that drove in from Chad sweeps away the regime with which we agreed.
And the history of the Soviet flight from the military bases we built in the region will be replenished with another episode ... "
