This afternoon the Florida Gators men’s basketball team travels to take on the No. 11 West Virginia Mountaineers in Morgantown for this year’s SEC/Big 12 Challenge game.
UF comes in riding a three-game winning streak, having won four of its past five games — all in Southeastern Conference play. WVU, which has won its last two but missed three games prior due to COVID issues, brings in a top-25 ranking and represents one of Florida’s toughest matchups this season.
BetMGM has the Gators a 5.5-point 4.5-point underdog to the Mountaineers while the over/under is set at 147.5 145.5 ahead of game time. [UPDATED]

It has been an up-and-down Southeastern Conference season for the Florida Gators men’s basketball team featuring both exhilarating wins and disappointing losses. And speaking of losses, UF has endured the schedule so far without its SEC Preseason Player of the Year Keyontae Johnson.
The Gators come into their Saturday road match with their rivals the Georgia Bulldogs carrying a 4-3 record in conference play and riding high after their season-best win over the No. 6 Tennessee Volunteers on Tuesday. While UGA sports a better overall with two more victories and the same number of losses, their intraconference woes have exceeded Florida’s, managing just two wins in six SEC matchups.
As such, BetMGM has the Gators a 4.5-point favorite over the Bulldogs while the over/under is set at 151.5 ahead of game time.

The PANTHERS (-165) will have a rested goaltender, and that will pay big dividends in the second end of the back-to-back situation. Florida has won seven in a row in this series, and 13 of their past 16 trips to the Motor City. The favorite has also cashed in seven straight in this series, so the Panthers are a good bet.

OVER 5.5 (-120) is also worth a small-unit wager, and you will need the Panthers to do most of the lifting. Driedger could be the No. 1 goalie on many NHL teams, and he has allowed just two goals in each of his outings.
The Over is 5-2-1 in the past eight games overall for the Panthers. For the Red Wings, all trends point to the Under, but tired legs after playing less than 24 hours ago will lead to more defensive lapses and more scoring chances for both sides.

Sept. 26 at Ole Miss Oct. 3 vs. South Carolina Oct. 10 at Texas A&M Oct. 17 vs. LSU Oct. 24 vs. Missouri Nov. 7 vs. Georgia (Jacksonville, Florida) Nov. 14 vs. Arkansas Nov. 21 at Vanderbilt Nov. 28 vs. Kentucky Dec. 5 at Tennessee.
Chances are everything – at least in the SEC East - will come down to the Georgia game in early November once again, but at least on paper, Florida's schedule looks like one where a 8-2 SU record at worst should be slightly favored.

Winning the East and winning the entire SEC is where more thought is needed though, because the Gators may be good in 2020, but all expectations are that they'll still be a level or two below whomever comes out of the SEC West.

The Gators are in that so-called “second wave” of favorites in the overall future markets, sitting behind Clemson, Ohio State, and Alabama, shoulder to shoulder with SEC rivals Georgia and LSU. Florida gets both of those rivals this year, and a SEC Championship would automatically have them as one of the last four standing.
Even a SEC title game defeat would keep in the Gators in the playoff discussion if it were their only loss on the year.
But this is still a team that might top out in a conference title game, or fail to even get there should they lose to Georgia as expected with a line as an underdog. If waiting on Florida to get to the SEC title game is a legitimate path on the SEC futures, waiting to see if Florida can get into the playoffs first falls into the same category.

Florida will be Bowl-bound again in 2020, and likely in a Bowl game that happens sometimes around the New Year on the calendar. Whether or not it's a playoff game remains to be seen, but seeing the Gators shatter through those next few goals all in one year would nice to witness.
A flat “10” number on the win total sits there for good reason, as a 10-2 straight-up (SU) record is the most logical projection right now, but if the Gators remain unbeaten through that Georgia game, a lot of things drastically increase for the projection of the 2020 Gators season.

10-2 SU may be the most logical preseason projection for the Gators, but when you put together the whole picture, Florida's got a chance to really do something special in 2020.
Whether it's 10-2 straight-up (SU) or better, the Gators have an opportunity to be one of those sneaky-good teams that come in and disrupt a lot of things on the national stage. Still would like to see glimpses of it first, but the Gators in the SEC East and SEC overall are great starting points to side with for Florida's 2020 season.

The Gators have a very good 2019 in their rear-view mirror, as the Gators finished the regular season 10-2 straight up (SU), and then beat a ranked Virginia team in the Orange Bowl. The only two defeats they had came at LSU – the eventual national champs – and Georgia in the neutral site rivalry game.
Otherwise it was relatively smooth sailing for the Gators throughout the year – all but one of their wins came by at least eight points - and they'd love to improve on it in 2020 without question.
