The authorities of the Republic of Cyprus have detained a man wanted for fraud in Russia. This is stated on the website of the police of the island state.
We are talking about a 59-year-old man, whose identity has not been disclosed. He was detained in the evening of September 8 at the Paphos airport. The authorities of the republic have already issued a warrant for his temporary arrest, now the man is in custody. The process of his extradition to Russia may soon begin, this issue will be resolved at the court.
It is noted that the Russian authorities declared the unknown person on the international wanted list in November 2012. It is alleged that from January 1997 to June 2010, he illegally transferred about 57.6 million rubles to himself from the account of another enterprise.
In August 2020, a Russian man, Igor Grechushkin, was detained in Cyprus in connection with the explosion in Beirut. The cargo of ammonium nitrate, which caused a powerful explosion in the Lebanese capital on the evening of August 4,was confiscated from his ship Rhosus. The Russians and Ukrainians who worked on the ship had to stay in Lebanon for a whole year, as the owner went bankrupt and abandoned the ship.
