Israel's Iron Dome missile defense system has proven effective, but the Palestinian Hamas movement still managed to damage it. This was stated by Russian military expert, Doctor of Military Sciences Konstantin Sivkov in a conversation with RIA Novosti.
The expert assessed the damage as "colossal": according to Sivkov, with a massive missile strike, Israel is unable to repel absolutely everything. "If the missiles went on 50-60 pieces in a salvo, the probability of interception would be much less and was no more than 10-15 percent," - said the expert.
According to Sivkov, even if the missile defense system was 90 percent effective, more than a hundred missiles still reached the target. The expert called the rockets of the Palestinians flying at Israel "pipes filled with gunpowder". However, since the cost of Iron Dome projectiles is "10 to 100 times higher", defense could also turn into damage.
Rockets were fired from the Gaza Strip toward Israel amid violence near the border and in East Jerusalem after an Israeli court ordered the eviction of several Palestinian families from their homes in Jerusalem's Sheikh Jarrah neighborhood.
