Slim Randa, an expert of the Valdai International Discussion Club, senior researcher and director of the Civil Diplomacy Dialogue Initiative at the Middle East Institute in Washington, compared the forces of Russia and the United States in the Middle East and described possible strategies for American policy in the region. She stated this in a comment to <url>.
"Before the administration of [US President Joe] Biden, this is not the most favorable platform for American interests. In the Middle East, Washington is competing with Beijing and Moscow, which are only increasing their influence in the region. If the United States engages the rivals in cooperation, in working to find a solution to the protracted conflicts ( ... ), it will serve for the benefit of American interests," Randa said.
At the same time, the expert recalled that the Middle East has never been at the top of the agenda for the Biden administration. In particular, Secretary of State Anthony Blinken even during the election campaign proposed to reduce the budgets allocated for Washington's activities in the region. Nevertheless, the Middle East countries "will themselves be at the top of the American agenda," Randa says.
