In Crimea, they responded to the condition of Ukraine for the supply of water to the peninsula. Deputy of the Crimean parliament Alexey Chernyak told RIA Novosti that the region will never return to Ukraine and will be provided with a sustainable water supply with the help of the federal center.
So he commented on the words of the Head of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine Arsen Avakov, who stated that Ukraine should not supply water to the Crimea until the peninsula returns to the control of Kiev.
"Crimea will never return to Ukraine. Can it really still not be understood by the politicians or officials of Ukraine? We have coped with all the problems and will continue to do so. With such support provided by all Russian citizens and the federal authorities, Crimea will be provided with a reliable and sustainable water supply, " Chernyak said.
He added that the Ukrainian authorities repeat the same statements on Crimea "like a mantra." According to Chernyak, the Crimeans "knew what they were going for," so "no one even thinks to return."
Earlier, the former President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko sympathized with the Crimeans, who, according to him, were deceived by the Russian authorities. The former Ukrainian leader said that he feels sorry for the residents of the peninsula because of problems with water and electricity. In his opinion, Moscow failed to raise the standard of living in the Crimea and provide an influx of tourists. The annexation of the peninsula to Russia did not bring the Crimeans "manna from heaven," he said.
Crimea became part of Russia in March 2014 after a referendum in which the majority of the region's residents voted in favor of such a decision. Ukraine, EU countries and the United States refused to recognize the results of the vote, calling the reunification of the peninsula with mainland Russia an annexation. The Russian authorities reject these accusations and insist that the accession procedure was in accordance with international law.
