In Ulan-Ude in Buryatia, Hieromonk Nikolai (Shcherbakov), the rector of St. Nicholas Church, visited the Drug Control Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Buryatia and consecrated offices and official cars, the department's website reports.
Among the consecrated vehicles was a paddy wagon. The ceremony was called "the consecration of the chariot".
The priest also spoke with the police about " the spiritual and moral education of young people and the need for spiritual work for every adult."
At a meeting with the head of the drug control department, Police Colonel Anatoly Novokreschennykh, the priest " wished the team fortitude, success in the service and good health."
A message on the website of the Buryat Ministry of Internal Affairs says that inviting priests of different religions is an "established tradition" of drug control officers.
In 2016, a similar ceremony was held in Moscow. Then the ROC consecrated the prison service paddy wagons, which are used for escorting prisoners, the press service of the capital's department of the Federal Penitentiary Service reported. The ceremony was conducted by Archpriest Konstantin Kobelev, assistant to the head of the Federal Penitentiary Service for organizing work with believers. He said a prayer and sprinkled the cars with holy water. Father Konstantin urged drivers of paddy wagons to be careful on the roads.
