The number of victims of the mysterious disease, dubbed "Havana syndrome", among US diplomats, military personnel and intelligence officers working abroad was significantly higher than previously thought. This is reported by The New York Times.
Previously, we were talking about 60 victims, now they have counted more than 130, not including CIA employees, data on which is not published.
"At the moment, we do not have clear information about the cause of these incidents and it would be premature and irresponsible to speculate," the newspaper quotes Amanda Shosh, a representative of the National Intelligence Service. It is noted that some experts consider the Russian special services responsible for secret attacks on American spies.
Two weeks earlier, it became known that the Americans are investigating about 60 cases of a mysterious ailment instead of two, as previously noted. We are talking about unexpected symptoms of certain brain disorders that the alleged victims of the attacks felt.
Since the end of 2016, employees of the US diplomatic mission and their relatives in Cuba have also complained of symptoms such as hearing loss, nausea, headaches and balance disorders. Washington has since expelled 15 Cuban diplomats over the island nation's failure to take appropriate measures to protect American personnel. The Associated Press then obtained an audio recording of the attack and described disturbing sounds: "the high-frequency sound of crickets combined with the scratching of fingernails on a board."
