Russia's Permanent Representative to the UN, Vasily Nebenzia, spoke about Washington's position on Iran. His words are transmitted by TASS.
The Permanent Representative said that the Russian side did not see a real change in Washington's policy on interaction with Tehran. He added that at the talks in Vienna on the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), the outlines of an agreement on the return of the United States to the nuclear deal with the Iranian side are already being viewed. "There is a common understanding of how to move towards the final goal," Nebenzia concluded.
Earlier, US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken noted that the US and Iran resolved only part of the differences during the negotiations. "I can't say whether we will be able to overcome these differences. Basically, it depends on the decisions that are made in Tehran by the supreme leader," he stressed.
On June 21, it became known that the only concession to the American leader Joe Biden from the new President of Iran, Ibrahim Raisi, could be a return to fulfilling the terms of the nuclear deal.
Before that, presidential elections were held in Iran, the winner of which was Raisi, the chairman of the Supreme Court. The politician is under US sanctions on charges of persecution and executions of political prisoners in the 1980s.
The US State Department promised that Washington will continue negotiations with Tehran on returning to the 2015 nuclear deal and under the new leadership of the country. Raisi himself said that he does not want to meet with Biden even if all sanctions against Iran are lifted.
