Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic called the possible rejection of oil and gas from Russia a "shot in the foot" for Europe. His words were broadcast on national television by RIA Novosti.
According to Vucic, alternative gas sources do not have enough fuel for Europe's needs. He also noted that "rational people in the West" understand this and realize the need for negotiations with Russia.
In particular, German and Austrian politicians say they cannot "destroy themselves" by rejecting Russian resources. "If we impose sanctions on Russia on the issue of oil and gas, we will destroy ourselves, as if we started fighting with someone, and first of all shot ourselves in the foot, how then to fight," Vucic said.
Earlier, Alexander Vucic called Russia's decision to convert gas payments into rubles a global problem. He stressed that many small European countries that do not have their own gas and oil are completely dependent on imports.
